Pace Band & Splits Calculator
Turn a goal finish time into a printable split-by-split pace band — even, negative, or positive splits — for any race distance.
We divide your goal time across the distance to get an average pace, then shape the splits by strategy. Even splits hold that pace the whole way. Negative splits start about 2% slower and finish about 2% faster — the pattern behind most personal bests. Positive splits do the reverse. Every split still adds up exactly to your goal time.
A pace band assumes flat ground and steady conditions. On a hilly course, hold effort rather than pace and expect to run the climbs slower and the descents faster than the band shows.
A fixed band can’t know your course’s hills, the forecast, or whether your goal time is realistic for your current fitness. Chase the numbers on a tough day and the band turns from a plan into a way to blow up.
Vertical sets your goal from your real training, paces you by grade-adjusted effort on the actual course profile, and keeps the target honest as race day approaches — so the plan fits you, not a formula.
