MCP server, early access

Your running coach, inside your AI assistant

Vertical's MCP server gives ChatGPT and Claude live access to your real training: your runs, your load, your zones, your plan. Ask anything and get answers grounded in your data, not generic advice.

Try asking

Questions your assistant can finally answer.

Vertical, what's my workout today and why?

How's my training load? Am I overdoing it?

How did my long run compare to plan?

I can't run Thursday. What should I do with the week?

These work because the AI sees your actual fitness, fatigue, zones and plan, not a pasted screenshot.

The difference

Real analytics, not raw numbers.

Raw-data MCP connectors hand the model a pile of numbers and hope. Vertical returns interpreted, coach-grade values: fitness, fatigue and form (CTL, ATL, TSB), pace zones from your critical-power fit, readiness, and where you sit in your plan, grounded in 500+ peer-reviewed papers. The AI answers like a coach who read your logbook, not a spreadsheet.

Vertical MCP: common questions

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard, started by Anthropic and now supported by ChatGPT and Claude, that lets an AI assistant securely connect to outside data and tools. Vertical runs an MCP server, so your assistant can read your real training and, with your confirmation, schedule workouts.

Which AI assistants does Vertical work with?

ChatGPT and Claude are the first two surfaces, and any MCP-compatible client can connect to the same server. If you use a different assistant, email [email protected] and tell us which one.

Does it work with free ChatGPT?

During early access, connectors require paid AI plans that support them. A directory listing will open access more broadly once it clears review, and we'll update this page when it does.

Can the AI change my plan or my watch schedule?

Only with your explicit confirmation. The assistant can propose a scheduling change or a structured workout; nothing is saved or pushed to your Garmin, COROS or Polar until you say yes.

What does the AI actually see, and is my data safe?

You approve scopes during OAuth: typically your activities, training load, zones and plan. Your watch password is never shared, you can revoke access at any time, and your training data is not used to train anyone’s models.

How is this different from the official COROS or Strava MCP?

Both are read-only, single-platform connectors that return raw data. Vertical covers Garmin, COROS, Polar and Suunto, returns interpreted coaching values (load, zones, readiness, plan context), and writes back: scheduling and structured workouts pushed to your watch.

Does this replace the Vertical app?

No. The app is the full self-driving coach: it builds your plan and adapts it automatically. The MCP server brings that same coach and data into the chats you already have open.

Does it work with Strava?

Vertical does not route through Strava. Strava offers its own official MCP connector (read-only, for subscribers), and its API terms still bar third-party apps from using Strava data for AI features. Vertical syncs your watch directly instead, so nothing here depends on Strava.
